THE GRAND MOOT COURT COMPETITION
It was in the year 1956-57, that the moot activities took a more organized shape. Class-moots were help for the I & II-year L.L.B. classes during booth the terms. A grand moot was held in the same year for which eminent members of the Bombay Bar were invited. Thereafter it has become the most important intra-college moot court competition in the Government Law College. The groups are segregated on the basis of every class, whereby every group has one winner. Winners of each individual group (class) then go further to compete amongst themselves. The latter part of the competition is termed as super grand-moot and there is one winner amongst all the groups. Despite being an inter-collegiate event, the response to the competition is indeed commendable.
DEMONSTRATION MOOT COURT
Starting in the year 1967-68, the demonstration moot court has become the event with which the M.C.A. activities are officially initiated. It is held every year so that the freshers are acquainted to the mooting process and become aware of the important of these competitions. As a tradition the panel of judges for this event of ex-students who have been established moot court speakers. After the demonstration, a question-answer session is held which helps students to clarify their doubts if they have any.
FRESHER'S MOOT COURT COMPETITION
This is the first intra-college mooting event organized by the Association in an academic year. The participants of the moot are usually the students of the first year. However, as the name suggests any student who has not participated earlier in a moot court is eligible to take part in the competition. This competition is conducted in three rounds - the first round is the elimination followed by the semi-finals and ending in the final round. In the last three years, however, there has been an impressive record of participation. The all-time high record was made in the year 2002-03 where the number of participants was close to 370 students.
The competition is presided by over-20 judges comprising of recently passed out students of the college. The finals are held in the college auditorium consisting of a panel of three judges including a senior professor and the Chairman of the Association.
MARATHI MOOT COURT
It is proposed to be held 5th January 2008 the proceedings are carried out in the regional language of Marathi.
KANGA MOOT COURT COMPETITION
It is a city level moot court competition organized by the Association in collaboration with the Rotract Club. It consists of a trophy named in the honor of Sir Jamshedji Kanga.
THE M.C. CHAGLA MOOT COURT COMPETITION
The association in its endeavor to promote mooting activities amongst the students organizes every year the M.C. Chagla memorial - Government Law College inter-collegiate moot court competition at the city level. It began in the year 1996-97 after which the competition has been conducted successfully for the past seven years and the eighth competition scheduled in Jan/Feb 2004. The bench consists of sitting High Court judges.
It is proposed to be held on 12th January 2008. |
