The Government Law
College, Moot Court Association has been hosting the ' D. M.
Harish Memorial Government Law College International Moot Court
Competition ' for the past ten years.
Jointly organised by the Government Law College, Mumbai and the
D. M. Harish Foundation, a Trust
instituted in memory of one of India’s eminent jurists, this
Competition has emerged as the most
prestigious mooting competition of its kind in India and has
played an important role in the promotion of mooting in the
country by providing a platform for law students to hone their
advocacy skills.
DMH is India's first International Moot Court
Competition
and was started in 2000 as a National Moot Court Competition.
However, it has been open to international entrants since the
past four years. It is with great pride
that we say that teams from Universities / Colleges in United
Kingdom, United States of America, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh,
Mauritius, Spain, Greece, Ireland and Australia have
participated in this annual event thus making it a truly global
experience.
In 2007, the competition was won by St. Edmund's College -
University of Cambridge.
In 2008 the finalists of the competition were Cornell Law
School, USA and Washington University School of Law, St. Louis,
USA with the latter emerging as the winners.
In 2009 the finalists of the competition were NALSAR University,
Hyderabad, India and Government Law College, Mumbai, India
In 2010 the finalists of the competition were National Law University, Delhi,
India and Indian Law Society’s Law College, Pune, India . The Semi Finalist
were King's :Law College, London and NALSAR University, Hyderabad, India
The case study of the competition deals primarily with issues
relating to Public International Law and has been drafted by an
expert in the field.
All expenses incurred by way of accommodation, food, conveyance
during the days of the competition will be borne by the
organizers.
The Rounds of the Competition are held at the premises of the
Government Law College, Mumbai and are adjudged by distinguished
advocates of the Bombay High Court, academicians and experts in
the field of International Law.
Arguing before a
bench of five High Court Judges in the Mumbai University
Convocation Hall in the Final Round coupled with a knowledgeable
audience of over 300 and more - the D. M. Harish Memorial
Government Law College International Moot Court Competition
provides mooters a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
