About SPIL

In an increasingly integrated world with growing trans-national interactions, the significance of international law has never been greater. In order to understand the tumultuous nature of international relations and to promote a greater awareness and understanding of international law, the students of Government Law College, Mumbai formed Students for the Promotion of International Law, Mumbai (SPIL, Mumbai).
SPIL, Mumbai seeks to promote international law, encourage communication and cooperation among students and lawyers internationally, contribute to legal education, promote social responsibility in the field of law, increase opportunities for students to learn about other cultures and legal systems worldwide and publicize educational and career opportunities in international law. The members of SPIL, Mumbai strive towards taking legal studies at an empirical level for a better tomorrow and also to promote law as an area of enquiry and study far beyond the realms of classrooms. This committee is an entirely student-based organization, receiving contributions from its members in order to promote its activities.

In the past year SPIL Mumbai has successfully organized several events, including a lecture on the International Criminal Court by Professor William Burke White of the University of Pennsylvania, a Model United Nations as well as a Student Exchange Program with the students of the School of International Relations, Tehran. SPIL, Mumbai regularly organizes workshops on Basics of International Law and International Law Moot Courts, which always have an overwhelming response from students within the college and outside, various Debates cum Roundtables, Legal Paper Presentations and an Annual Intra College International Law Moot Court Competition. In the pursuit of achieving its basic goal being promotion of international law at a global level SPIL, Mumbai proposes to organize “The Government Law College International Law Summit, 2010”.

The Government Law College International Law Summit, 2010 is a forum where the legal minds from the various fields of law and from different parts of the world will explore the ocean of thoughts and ideas on different legal issues while speaking out their minds. The Summit is spread over a period of four days.
